CNC Milling & 5-Axis Machining

From simple brackets to impellers with free-form blades: complex parts machined in fewer setups for better accuracy.

CNC Milling & 5-Axis Machining
3- and 4-axis

3- and 4-axis CNC milling

The workhorse for most machined parts: housings, plates, brackets, manifolds and fixtures. A 4th axis lets us machine features on several sides without re-clamping.

Typical parts: enclosures, mounting plates, heat sinks, fixtures, valve bodies.

5-axis

5-axis CNC machining

5-axis machining tilts and rotates the part so the cutter reaches almost any surface in one setup.

Our 5-axis machines use a trunnion table, so a valve block or manifold can be machined on five faces in one clamping.

Typical parts: valve blocks and manifolds, impellers, aerospace brackets, medical device prototypes, robotic joints, mold inserts.

  • Better accuracy between featuresNo error added by re-clamping.
  • Complex geometryImpellers, blades, undercuts and compound angles.
  • Better surface finishThe tool stays at the optimal angle.
  • Shorter lead timesFewer setups and fixtures.

Design tips

Design tips for lower-cost milled parts

Radius internal corners

Use internal corner radii slightly larger than the cutter, e.g. R3 instead of sharp corners.

Keep pockets shallow

Keep pocket depth under about 4× the cutter diameter.

Tolerance only what matters

Specify tight tolerances only on functional features.

Use standard sizes

Standard hole and thread sizes reduce tooling cost.

Send us your complex part

Not sure if it needs 5-axis? Send the model. We will recommend the most cost-effective way to make it.

  1. We review your drawing, usually the same day.
  2. You get a price, lead time and DFM notes.
  3. We machine a sample for new parts after your approval.
  4. Production, full inspection and shipping from Shanghai.
